Not quite predictable however was how well both Downton Abbey (16 nods) and Sherlock (13 nods) fared in this year's categories with the former managing to get a nod for Best Drama (good luck to it, considering it's against the likes of Homeland and Breaking Bad) and Michelle Dockery for Best Actress, Joanne Froggatt and Maggie Smith for Supporting Actress with Hugh Bonneville for Best Actor and Jim Carter for Supporting Actor as well. Regardless of the second series not being as strong as the first one, I'm bloody pleased for the show. I hope it does win a few of the awards it's nominated for.
If Downton Abbey has been elevated into the main drama categories, then Sherlock shouldn't be discouraged from being in the mini-series categories with both the show up for Best Mini-Series (against the likes of American Horror Story and Luther), Benedict Cumberbatch nominated for Best Actor and Martin Freeman for Supporting Actor as well as Steven Moffat for Outstanding Writing as well. I guess this truly is the year for British television, isn't it?

The Emmys will air on ABC from September 23rd. Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the ceremony this year.
