The Night Is Full Of Terrors

Posted on 5:24 AM by Unknown
And here's a rundown of some of the things I've been watching over the last few weeks.

Desperate Housewives: Okay, the show is still operating on a nice consistency level over the last few weeks but with Julie and Porter becoming parents and having different viewpoints on it, it does seem to be something of a distraction from the main plot. I mean, should Susan/Lynette/Gabby be aware of the fact that Orson is trying to drive a wedge between them and Bree? And how much longer is Carlos going to be in rehab and why can't Renee get a better storyline than trying to solve Ben's money woes? Even Karen has gotten a rather poignant storyline now.

Game Of Thrones: The North may remember but apparently so does the rest of America too, given that the opening episode for Season 2 clocked in an impressive 6 million viewers for HBO. As openers go, this one felt more like a set up piece but an extremely well executed one with Joffrey embracing his reign, Sansa trying to tow the line, Littlefinger/Tyrion/Cersei all trying to outsmart each other, Rob and Cat dealing with practicalities of making allies and Daenerys trying to find help for her disillusioned tribe. The likes of Arya, Jon and company did feel a little left out but with the introduction of Stannis and that creepy as hell priestess, Melisandre, I have a feeling this series could be even better than the first one.

Homeland: Seven episodes in and I'm still pulled into watching this beauty of a show. It's been interesting to see both Carrie and Brody actually engage in a sexual tryst before things quickly soured between them but I can't help thinking it could've been extended a little longer. Carrie does seem to be unravelling a little over the last few episodes, which is obviously setting up a fall of sorts in time for the finale. Either way, this show is continuously gripping to watch.

Skins: The last two episodes of Series 6 have been interesting enough. Maybe there was a bit of overkill with Frankie's parental issues but at least the tedious love triangle between her, Matty and Nick is finally out of the way (she ditched them both) and Mini/Alo have become parents while Alex left Bristol as well. As a finale went, it's the best one we've had since the second series and a welcome antidote to the horrible way the fourth series ended things. I do hope the next series/specials are a good way of sending the show off in style because this was a good way of doing it.

The Vampire Diaries: This show is still excellent to watch. The last few episodes have pushed Stefan and Elena further apart, made Damon less annoying, given Alaric a mysterious new girlfriend in Meredith, have created a triangle of sorts between Klaus/Caroline/Tyler, debuted Bonnie's estranged mother, Abby and more importantly has seen the welcomed return of Elijah as well. Now if the latter can beat seven shades of crap out of Klaus, it really will be the best series ever.

Titanic: I really wanted to like this mini-series but two out of the four episodes have somewhat proven hard work. I mean, Julian Fellowes is a great writer and there's a good cast here, but on further inspection, you can't help thinking that this would've been more engaging if it had actually been commissioned as a 90 minute one-off instead of a four parter. It certainly would've helped with the pacing and despite some of the talent here, a lot of the dialogue is horribly cliched to the point where it borders on parody. Instead of dreading the ship sinking, you're almost looking forward to it, if only certain characters will meet their demise. Here's hoping the remaining two episodes are better paced.

Upstairs Downstairs: It's times like this where I was glad I caught this show on repeat rather than actually watching it on premiere. The last few episodes injected some life into proceedings with another appearance from Rose, Beryl and Harry's relationship taking off, Hallam and Agnes's marriage falling apart and Persephone's true colours being revealed but by then it was a case of 'too little, too late' for me. Even Alex Kingston as Blanche hasn't really made this series worth watching. If it gets a third run, it's unlikely I'll be watching it.

- Despite his lack of acting profile, Adam Levine has been cast in a role in the second season of American Horror Story.
- A major character will die in the third series of Downton Abbey while another couple will be starting a family as well.
- True Blood's fifth season will premiere on HBO from June 10th at 9pm.
- Supernatural is rumoured to be returning for an eighth season with a new showrunner as Sera Gamble is stepping down.
- The Fades has been axed after one series by BBC3.
- Breaking Bad's final season will be split in two, according to series star Bryan Cranston.
- Both Whoopi Goldberg and Lindsay Lohan will be appearing in upcoming episodes of Glee.

Doctor Who - Series 7 Spoilers: The Angels Are Returning

Posted on 4:44 AM by Unknown
Yes, filming for the pivotal first and fifth episodes have finally begun for Doctor Who's seventh series and here are some of the highlights of the last few days ...

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan are posing with a 1960's Dalek and it's been revealed that the first episode is going to feature as many Daleks from the show's history as humanly possible. Well, at some point this idea was going to have to happen and while there's a part of me that's wondering they didn't leave it for the 50th anniversary, I have a feeling this could be an epic Dalek episode from Moffat's era.

And when we're not gushing about Daleks, filming for the fifth episode has also taken place too with some Weeping Angels creeping about the place too. This one is Amy/Rory's final episode but not the last episode Karen Gillan and Arthur will be filming - that will be the fourth episode, penned by Chris Chibnall (who's also penned episode 2 where Mark Williams is definitely playing Rory's father, according to DWM).

More filming with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill and there's at least one moment where it appears that the Ponds are arguing about the Doctor. There's also a picture where it looks like Amy is wearing a rather interesting ring as well. As for River, so far there's been no reports of Alex Kingston filming for either episodes but given that they're due to film in New York in a fortnight, I wouldn't rule anything out.

Meanwhile Jenna-Louise Coleman has graced the cover of this month's DWM and will begin filming her first episode in May, which will be the fourth block after Chibnall's second episode is filmed on it's own. In the magazine, she's hinted that she knows the name of her character and more details on her story arc and dynamic with the Doctor. Steven Moffat has also revealed one of three audition pieces that sealed Jenna the role ...

However, two warnings ....

1) Her character will not be named Jasmine. Moffat apparently isn't keen on the name (why? It's lovely!) and given that JLC already played a Jasmine on Emmerdale, maybe that's a good thing.
2) This is not a scene we'll see in a future episode. But I wish it was.

The Doctor and Jasmine are investigating a haunted house

The Doctor: So you saw it coming in here? What did it look like?
Jasmine: Gray. Sort of dusty. Like it was made of spider webs.
The Doctor: And it came through the wall?
Jasmine: Yeah, That wall there.
The Doctor: And made a moaning sound.
Jasmine: Moaning, groaning, yeah.
The Doctor: And you don't think it was a ghost. Why not?
Jasmine: Because there's no such thing as ghosts.
The Doctor: You know, a lot of people who saw what you just saw wouldn't still think that
Jasmine: Obviously. Otherwise there wouldn't still be idiots who believes in ghosts.
The Doctor: What were you doing here?
Jasmine: I love this place. It's.. beautiful
The Doctor: It's falling apart
Jasmine: It's old. I love old things, they make me sad
The Doctor: What's good about sad?
Jasmine: It's happy for deep people. You'd know.
The Doctor: I'm not sad.
Jasmine: Oh, you are though. Under all that talking and leaping about. Takes one to know one.
The Doctor: So you come here... for recreational sadness.
Jasmine: Yeah. In a way. Okay, why are you looking at me like that?
The Doctor: You remind me of an old friend of mine. Someone I lost a long time ago.
Jasmine: Down boy. I'm not her.
The Doctor: Oh, I know you're not - I don't believe in ghosts either.
Jasmine
: Oh my god, what's that?!
The Doctor: Okay, just stay calm.
Jasmine: But that's the thing I saw before.
The Doctor: Yep, and it's coming towards us. I expect you noticed that. Say it with me - I don't believe in ghosts.
Jasmine: I don't believe in ghosts.
The Doctor: Louder! I don't believe in ghosts. !
Jasmine: I don't believe in ghosts! Will this work?
The Doctor: No idea, never met a ghost before.

My Review of Ringer's 1x20: "If You're Just An Evil Bitch, Then Get Over It"

Posted on 11:38 AM by Unknown

Written by Cathryn Humphris
Directed by Roger Kumble

Juliet (to Catherine): “You know, I just want a normal mom and if you are sick, I want to you to get better. But if you’re just an evil bitch, then get over it.”

And if Juliet fancies a career in running an agony aunt column, she might want to brush up on her empathy skills a tad before pursuing. Of course, Juliet raised a good point in relation to her mother’s actions – it’s a pity for Bridget that Catherine simply cannot get over it.

Catherine, in her own way rightfully blamed ‘Siobhan’ for her marriage to Andrew going down the tube and has been spending the last few months trying to bump ‘Siobhan’ off and managing to fail each time. It was time for her to take a far more direct approach and here’s where Catherine really showed her crazy side. The suicide attempt and manipulating the situation so that she could stay with Andrew, Juliet and Bridget was a nice move on Catherine’s part.

Using her tablets and drugging Bridget with them in the last act of the episode was another impressive. Do I honestly think Bridget will actually die? Of course I don’t but Catherine’s actually emerged as a great threat to Bridget, so I have to give the show props on that one alone.

If anything, the real Siobhan should actually be taking some lessons from Catherine when it comes to a bit of masterminding. Even when Siobhan attempted to use her scheming to save Henry’s arse, it ended up backfiring on her big time. It turns out there are some maids out there who don’t take kindly to being bribed.

The two interesting things that resulted from this failed attempt of bribery was that Bridget finally realised that Henry killed Tyler and if she can actually piece the rest together, then maybe this show will finally have both Bridget and Siobhan facing off against each other because it’s definitely a showdown that’s been way overdue now.

The second interesting thing from this was also Henry dumping Siobhan as well. Given that Henry had his kids taken off him and that Tim seemed determined to destroy him, it really wasn’t Henry’s week. I like Tim – he’s actually a lot of fun but he’s also another painful reminder of how lame Bodaway actually is as a character as well.

I’m guessing with his scenes with Andrew over the flash drive that the latter is about to find out that Siobhan cheated on him with Henry. Of course the bigger priority for Andrew should be the fact that his ex-wife is trying to bump off the woman pretending to be his current wife but next week’s trailer showed that he’ll be taking care of that.

As for Victor – he made some progress in this episode. Bridget trusted him enough to open up about the man she killed in self-defence back in the opening episode and he also managed to figure out that Catherine was behind the hit as well. It’s amazing how much actual competence Victor showed in this episode. Now if he manages to save everyone from Catherine, he’ll be doing fine, won’t he?

Also in “If You’re Just An Evil Bitch, Then Get Over It”

Juliet uttered the title of this episode. Of course, more alarmingly was the way Juliet presented Bridget with a letter opener.

Bridget (to Andrew): “Whoever’s doing this, they’re not after Bridget. They’re after me.”

Henry’s kids are called Dash and Bex. Only on an American show would they be called that. Oh and Roger Kumble who directed this episode also directed Cruel Intentions as well.

Siobhan: “This one I know I can fix.”

Tim (to Henry): “There’s no talking yourself out of this. I’m going to destroy you, whatever it takes. I will make you and Siobhan pay for what you did.”

Where the hell are both Malcolm and Olivia? There are only two episodes left, so can we please find out what’s happened to them already?

Siobhan: “I don’t care about revenge if I lose you.”
Henry: “No, it’s too late. I’m not gonna leave my boys and don’t try to fix anything else because every time you do, things just get worse.”

Catherine: “Find what you’re looking for?”
Bridget: “It’s you.”

Chronology: From where “Let’s Kill Bridget” left off.

“If You’re Just An Evil Bitch, Then Get Over It” is certainly interesting enough, especially with the likes of Tim and Catherine being genuine threats and Victor actually being useful and good at his job for once. That doesn’t however mean that I think this show has much of a future left in it though.

Top 40 TV Characters Part 3

Posted on 5:23 AM by Unknown
And here is the third part of my rundown of favourite TV characters.

26: Atia (Polly Walker) - Rome

Oh, Atia. Now here's a woman who would give Cersei Lannister a run for her money when it comes to devious/sociopathic matriarchal characters. No matter what crazy antics this woman pulled - pimping out her children, torturing/ruining her enemies, Atia remained a fascinating character to watch in the show's two year run.

27: Oliver Queen/Green Arrow (Justin Hartley) - Smallville

Yes, I was tempted to pick either Clark/Lois/Chloe/Tess/Lex but I guess Oliver wins out, simply from evolving into a rogue-ish typical playboy character into an incredibly honourable and interesting hero, especially in the show's final two seasons. As allies go, Oliver was definitely one of the best when it came to having Clark's back.

28: K9 (John Leeson) - K9

Come on - it's a metal dog and while this K9 isn't quite as interesting as the ones we've seen in both Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures, he's still interesting enough to merit being on my list. Long live the metal dog, no matter what show he ends up on.

29: Bridget Kelly (Sarah Michelle Gellar) - Ringer

This show might have many problems in it's way but the one consistently well written and brilliant character has been Bridget Kelly - the former stripper/alcoholic whose been spending the last few months pretending to be her bitchier sister Siobhan Martin whilst falling for Andrew and trying to avoid Bodaway like the plague. That role alone has been interesting for Gellar.

30: Tess Roberts (Fiona Button) - Lip Service

Anyone should've seen this one coming. After all, I chose Alice when the first part of my list touched on The L Word and Tess certainly has similar endearing characteristics to that infamous Chart creator and here's hoping in the show's upcoming second run, she's a little less unlucky in love.

Part 4 should be up on Sunday or Monday.

True Blood - Season 5 New Trailer

Posted on 5:01 AM by Unknown
And we have finally gotten a trailer with actual clips. Fresh from the premiere of Game Of Thrones second season, HBO have given us a trailer for True Blood's upcoming fifth year. Here are some of the highlights from the trailer ...

Sookie and Lafayette are burying bodies outside the former's house but while we know one of those bodies is definitely Debbie's, does this really mean that Tara is no longer with us? She sure as hell isn't in the trailer.

Jessica seems to have gotten her mitts on a gorgeous new guy and considering that her and Jason are sort of playing the field with each other, I say more power to her. I think the new is Claude, which should make for an interesting dynamic. Claude should be like catnip for Jessica.

Things aren't looking good for Sam either, considering that he's covered in blood and some mean looking guy is behind him. I'm guessing there's more consequences for Marcus's death about to fall on Sam's lap this season.

Jason is not having the time of his life as Steve Newlin invites himself in and terrorises the cop in clips from this trailer. I'm really looking forward to finding out who exactly turned Steve into a vampire.

Bill, Eric and the latter's 'sister' Nora are in action and I'm pretty sure somewhere in the trailer, Eric and Nora are kissing. Not sure if the Sookie/Eric shippers will love that but I'm more open minded on the whole thing myself.

All in all, a fantastic, tantalising trailer to what should be a fun season to watch. I'm gonna miss Alan Ball running this show but hopefully this upcoming season will see his reign end on a high. And the sooner we learn about the returning Russell and new bad girl Salome the better.

Season 5 Trailer/Screencaps: http://skarsgardfans.com/2012/04/01/true-blood-season-5-full-promo-video-trailer/

Season 5 of True Blood airs on HBO Sundays at 9pm from June.

Top 40 TV Characters Part 2

Posted on 5:54 AM by Unknown
And here is the second part of my Top 40 characters blog. This time, it's a bit of an animated special. Hope you all enjoy.

31: Death (Adam Carolla) - Family Guy

Yes, the almighty creature known as Death gets to be my favourite character because given how divisive the population of Spooner Street can be, you almost wouldn't blame the guy if he decided to kill every single resident on that street at some point. Plus, the fact that he hasn't killed Peter shows an admirable self-restraint I didn't think was possible.

32: Charles Montgomery Burns (Harry Shearer) - The Simpsons

Excellent himself. Yes this might be a man who will happily trample on anyone who gets in his way and even will consider skinning greyhound puppies for a new coat but Burns cartoony villainy, coupled with the odd doses of humanity do make him a fascinating character to root for, be appalled by and grudgingly admire from time to time. Though how he hasn't noticed Smithers overt fondness for him does beggar belief at times.

33: Klaus Heissler (Dee Bradley Baker) - American Dad

Ah, the fish. One we can often feel a little bad for. If you live with a family like the Smiths and an entitled alien like Roger, then like Klaus, you'd probably have the odd bouts of rage and resentment from time to time. The fish is often the most sympathetic character on that show.

34: Father Jack Hackett (Frank Kelly) - Father Ted

Drink. Feck. Arse. Girls. It's amazing how those four particular words have been associated with this character. An alcoholic, violent, often lecherous priest played to absolute perfection by Frank Kelly. Jack might have been the very character whose bad side you did not want to get on but he certainly made for entertaining viewing, especially that time he punched Bishop Brennon for good measure.

35: Rallo Tubbs (Mike Henry) - The Cleveland Show

This might be the weakest of Seth Macfarlane's creations but as a character goes, Rallo is pretty entertaining and considering that Cleveland has become every bit as a jerk as Peter is in Family Guy, it's kind of nice to have Rallo make an idiot out of Cleveland every now and then. When he isn't commenting on his mother's fondness for drinking.

Okay, this new Blogger format is going to take some getting used to. Happy April everyone.
